Mercedes Sprinter Radio Code Decoder

I recently had some success in finding the original 5 digit radio code for an early Mercedes Sound 10 radio unit fitted to a friends 2004 Mercedes Sprinter using this decode list.

You might want to give it a try.. No promises, but its worth a go!  Just enter the last 8 digits of your Sprinters VIN into the grey window of  the downloadable decoder spread sheet  and then press enter – if the radio code is known against the VIN number it will be displayed in the yellow window.  If  ‘N/A’  is displayed then its not your lucky day, sorry!   This will only work if you still have the original radio fitted from when your vehicle left the factory.  Remember this is for the early series of sprinters with the radio as the picture above.

If the above does not work out for you I still may be able to assist with the code for your old model radio cassette unit. Remove the radio from the dash and take down the Becker model and serial number from the paper label on the side of the set. List these details in the comments box beneath this post with your request and I will see what I can do.

Instructions for entering the code:

After switching on the unit the display will show ‘SOUND 10’ for a brief time then clear.
Press [ ON ] and ‘SOUND 10’ will display again followed by ‘CODE * * * * ‘ The ‘C’ will be flashing.
Press [ + or – ] to increment/decrement the first digit of the code, then press [ M ] to select the second digit.
Repeat the procedure until all digits have been entered.
Upon entering the last digit press and hold the [ M ] key to accept the code.
The set will now turn on.

If ‘WAIT’ is displayed on your radio: This means that the incorrect code has been tried too many times. If you leave the radio powered on for over two hours it should reset and clear, allowing you to enter the new and correct code. It is possible for repeated could lock you out of the radio altogether, if this is the case WAIT will not disappear after two hours.  The radio will then have to electrically unlocked at an auto electrical radio specialist.

      I am afraid I can only help out with radios as fitted to Sprinter commercial vehicles. If you radio is of the same type and model, made by Becker then I may be able to help but I will need the Becker Serial Number from the side of the radio unit.

      None of those numbers mean anything sorry, the model number is not one I recognise (It is made for Mercedes by Eurovox). I can only decode the older Becker Audio 10 series units from the Sprinter and similar, in which case I am afraid I cannot help.

      Hopefully the code 24133 for the serial number 48022963 or code 22231 for serial number 48022693 This should put you out of your silent misery driving your Sprinter!

      Well it was worth a shot, you will need to investigate the wiring a little further. It is entirely possible the cones have fallen out of the speakers on the dash (The sun dries them and they fall to pieces) Lever the grilles up on the front edge and take a look at them, its a common problem. Failing that you will have to look at the radio as faulty in itself. Last resort this one as they are a hardy unit!

    My Mercedes dealer gave me the code 24121 but it doesn’t work.

      I don’t know where they got that number from, unless your radio is not the original set fitted from new. Anyway the code for that set should be 44244. If that does not work, then try 44688 or 24622 , though my guess is it will be the very first one.

      That VIN is not listed in my reference, you will have to pull the radio from the dash and send me the Becker model and serial number from the side sticker of your radio, I will probably be able to help with that information.

        That radio is an unusual install for a Sprinter that is why it is not listed. The code will be one of the following, you will just have to try them to find the correct one as I have some conflict of information here. Definitely one of them – just not sure which one!

        22232, 42632, 22632, or if a four digit code 2632

      If your Mercedes radio is manufactured by Becker then this code should work for your Mercedes Sprinter radio 12241.

    1. Hi Dick,

      The Mercedes Sound 5 HA1111 is manufactured by Mobis Hyundai, As such it does not have a code and is matched to the ECU of each vehicle using canbus communications when the vehicle is made. Should the radio be connected to a vehicle where the radio is not recognised, you will get a PROD display on the radio. This will only go away when the radio is matched to the ECU. There are specialised audio dealers that can wipe the eeprom inside the radio so that it may be married to the new vehicle (as if it were a new set) and also some who remove the security option completely. It is not a cheap job, and in most cases would cost in the order of £35 to £45 to get done.

      If the serial number is 1320793 then the code should be: 16525
      Or if the serial number is the barcode number – then it should be: 15433

        Well we need to be sure what number is actually the serial number, can you send me a photo of the paper label on the side of the radio ? steve@mercedes.gen.in then I can have a look and see what is correct. Usually the barcode number contains the serial number but in your case it does not.

        See here how the barcode final numbers contains the serial number – the two numbers you gave me do not appear the same both as serial number and in last numbers of barcode.

        Only 2 bar code sticker inside of the box and numbers on the plastic, i will send you photos…

      5. Hi Steve, Thanks so much for that, our drive back from Glastonbury was an absolute pleasure with toons!
        However, it did highlight the fact that our speakers are blown and when you turn it up this becomes very apparent! can you recommend the best set of speakers to replace them with and also is there an updated stereo (maybe one with mini jack input on the front or USB etc) which will fit into the slot, I noticed the sides of the Becker stereo are rounded?

      6. Hi Jerry,

        To fit a standard radio to the aperture you may want to use one of these. Behind the radio there is a square grey opening that is DIN sized, it just looks a little untidy and this facia plate finishes the job off nicely. Speaker cones always go, I think it has a lot to do with the heat directly in the windscreen. Best bet is take one out and get off to a car hifi shop and see what they can offer you. There are so many types on the market, different depths and mounting configurations its best to let someone match you one up without taking a chance on them fitting.

        Fui verificar o modelo e ele ia que não for utilizada na Europa. Só posso supor que ele é feito por Becker. Eu tenho alguns códigos para que você tente com referência o número de série, mas estes são realmente para os modelos da Europe Por favor, tente-los. Espero que eles funcionam! Se não lamento que eu não posso ajudar mais.

        Hi there Danilo,

        I have checked the model and it ia one not used in Europe. I can only assume that it is made by Becker. I have a few codes for you to try with reference your serial number but these are really for the EU models. Please try them. I hope they work! If not sorry that I cannot help more.
